Marci RinkoffMarci is the Principle & Women's Leadership Coach at MBR Coaching & Training

What is your favorite book?
There's too many to list but here's a few:

  • My Year of Meats by Ruth Ozeki - gives you a funny, yet candid look at what we consider as a "normal" family and the meat industry.
  • Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert - gives you permission to have a messy life and search for your truth.
  • What is the What? by Dave Eggers was the most gripping non-fiction tale of the Boys of Sudan. The day I finished this book, I personally met the main "character" at a fundraiser in Berkeley. I was too choked up to talk.
  • The Color of Water by James McBride - another non-fiction written beautifully about a man discovering his roots as a Jewish/African-American.
  • The Enneagram Made Easy - the book that inspired me to study the Enneagram.
  • Primal Leadership by Daniel Goleman - the book that led me to doing work in Emotional Intelligence with leaders.
  • And ANYTHING David Sedaris writes!!

What women leader inspires you?
Maya Angelou. She's a leader to me because she went through hell and rose above it with beauty, grace, intelligence, poetry, and strength. She commands the room with her eloquence. And she inspired me through some personal challenges.

Who was your best manager and why?
Jack Grayson from American Productivity & Quality Center. The BEST EVER. He shared his knowledge and passion with everyone - from the receptionist, to the delivery guy to the CEO. He taught me about Quantum Physics, the Chaos Theory and much more. And he reminded me and all the staff that life is to be lived to the fullest. He was kind, smart, inspired others, showed sincerity and knew how to grow a successful organization.

What was your first "real" job?
A camp counselor when I was 13. I got paid so I consider it real. My other real real job was out of college - I was a fundraising consultant to college campuses around the U.S. We raised money for international social services such as immigration rescue & relief, education, and senior care.

Where do you do your best thinking?
On a personal retreat, on hikes and in collaboration with others.

What do you value most in employees and colleagues?
Employees - that they are committed to excellence. Colleagues - that they are committed to the team and to excellence.

What would you like to be the world's best at?
Great question. Making everyone happy at work!

What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Bringing hundreds of people to the Middle East to create awareness around social service needs and raising over $10 million.

What is your personal mission statement?
To appreciate and enjoy life to the fullest by by following my heart, maintaining my health, loving my family & friends and staying connected to community.
